Biography
My name is Kaylee Bae, and I am a computer science major enrolled in the 2026 Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program (Heath IBEP). One experience that has significantly shaped my personal growth is my involvement in taekwondo. During my childhood, I was quiet and lacked confidence in myself. However, through kihaps (shouts commonly used in taekwondo techniques), breaking boards, and years of practice, I developed more confidence and came to realize the importance of adopting a growth mindset.
I firmly believe that considering oneself incapable of completing a task can be just as detrimental as lacking the necessary skills. In other words, self-confidence is critical for achieving success. To me, self-confidence does not imply that I will initially succeed at everything I attempt. Just like in taekwondo, mastery in any field requires hard work and practice. Self-confidence, in my view, means that I have the ability to become competent at anything, given enough discipline and patience. It means that I do not have to fear making mistakes but, instead, earnestly pursue learning.
I am highly passionate about this—not only for myself but for others as well. I love encouraging people and helping them believe in themselves by demonstrating the value they offer. This is one of the reasons why I aspire to transition my career at a health-tech company from a software engineering role to a product management position.
I joined Heath IBEP to gain experience in the integration of business and engineering, which provides a strong foundation for a product management career. I am excited to develop interdisciplinary skills that will aid me in my future career, and I look forward to learning these essential professional skills from my mentor throughout my time at the University of Tennessee.
