Biography

My name is Hannah Selph, and I am an Industrial Engineering major in the 2023 cohort of the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program (IBEP). Beginning in high school, I have observed how a dedicated advisor, director, or teacher can shape a program and positively impact the associated students. Based on these first-hand experiences, I have been increasingly interested in pursuing a career that would allow me to do the same for groups that need a helping hand. I am a dedicated and motivated student and worker. When passionate about a topic or task, I invest focused time and energy to explore the topic or area fully and complete corresponding tasks to the best of my ability. I am consistently pushing myself beyond my comfort zone to put my thoughts and skills to work and achieve personal growth. I am excited to apply these skills to my area of study and continue growing through Heath IBEP.

As an Industrial Engineering major, I am interested in learning how to make systems, businesses, and programs more productive by evaluating work, flow, and economic efficiency. The necessary skillset to perform this type of work is derived from both engineering concepts and business philosophy. I joined Heath IBEP to develop the interdisciplinary skills that I will need to be successful in these areas. I believe this program will help me gain the proficiency and capabilities necessary to one day be able to make impactful change. Exposure to the Heath IBEP curriculum, industry professionals and mentors, as well as a strong cohort of like-minded students will help me move towards that goal and push me farther than I can currently imagine.

I am only beginning to discover my professional interests. Most of my professional experiences have been centered around the advocacy of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education. Those experiences have allowed me to discover my interest in improving existing programs and advancing new ones. While evaluating my industry and role interests, I am enthusiastically looking forward to pursuing opportunities that will allow me to work with program/project management or processes management. In this effort, I am excited to be completing my first internship in college with Weyerhaeuser this summer 2021! Additionally, some of my specific areas of interest include National Laboratories, government operations, and school systems. I am excited to see where this path leads me!
