Biography

My name is Barrett Tillman, and I am a mechanical engineering major at the University of Tennessee. I have a natural tendency toward creative and innovative work, and I exercise these traits in my classes and my personal hobbies to develop a strong ability for unique and aesthetic problem solving. I have been fortunate to exercise these skills at an engineering internship at Protomet Corporation, where I worked to improve the safety and efficiency of manufacturing and assembly processes, utilizing skills in SOLIDWORKS, control system wiring, and hands-on engineering. I plan on attaining a master’s in architecture after I graduate from the University of Tennessee, and I want to work for a company that will allow me to utilize the technical experience I have acquired from my engineering education in an architectural design position. This path allows me to exercise my creative and innovative nature in a more direct fashion, while using my engineering education. I am seeking experience in the architectural field.I am a member of the 2022 cohort of the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program, and I have been so lucky to develop my communication skills, my time management skills, my connections, and my clarity and confidence on my career path through my experience with the program. Furthermore, I have been able to participate in many projects that connect the business and engineering students in my cohort for unique and valuable experiences in the business side of engineering. These projects exposed me to systems thinking, a valuable perspective and tool for all industries to grow and flourish. These projects helped me learn how to lead and contribute in a group of talented and unique individuals from different professional backgrounds. These projects will help me continue to grow in meaningful and valuable ways throughout my undergraduate degree.
