Computer Science
Biography
I am Alyssa Quijano, a Computer Science student at the University of Tennessee thrilled to be in the 2027 Cohort for the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program (IBEP). In addition to IBEP, I am also involved in the Cook Grand Challenge Honors Program, NAE Grand Challenge Scholars Program, and serve on the Executive Board of the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE).
I have always been driven by a strong desire to continuously challenge myself and embrace new opportunities. Growing up, I was taught that effective communication and self-confidence are just as important, if not more so, than academic success. Although I never fully appreciated this at the time, I now recognize the importance of these skills in achieving success. This realization has motivated me to step out of my comfort zone and learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, pushing me to seek out opportunities that continue to test my limits and embrace each challenge as a chance to grow.
Applying for Heath IBEP is one of the greatest decisions I have ever made. It presents an exciting opportunity for personal and professional growth, better preparing me to enter the workforce as a well-rounded individual. I am eager to engage with and learn from my professors, mentors, cohort members, and industry professionals. The opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of individuals with various backgrounds and viewpoints will not only provide valuable insight into the intersection of engineering and business sectors but also broaden my knowledge and perspective.
Upon graduation from the University of Tennessee I hope to find a career that integrates both technology and medicine. While I am still exploring all the different career paths open to me, I am passionate about contributing to advancements in healthcare through technological innovations.
