Management
Biography
I am Skyler Baril, a business management major from Mount Juliet, Tennessee. I come from a close-knit family of eight, and I am a first generation college student. Growing up in a large family, it is impossible not to learn the importance of teamwork, patience, and resilience. I pay my own way through school, which has deepened my appreciation for hard work. Balancing a full course load while working to support myself has not been easy, but it has taught me the importance of perseverance and self-drive. I think my experiences have and will shape me into
someone who is not afraid of challenges. I want these skills to guide me in my professional and personal life.
I joined the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program because I have always been torn between my interests in engineering and business. While I ultimately chose business, I have always been fascinated by the engineering process, and I believe understanding it more deeply will give me a unique perspective in the business world. Heath IBEP offers me the opportunity to bridge my two interests, combining problem-solving skills of engineering with the strategic and leadership skills needed in business. I believe the engineering way of thinking can be incredibly valuable in the business world, especially in roles that require critical thinking and decision-making. I am hoping that my participation in Heath IBEP will help me develop a well-rounded skill set that will set me apart in the job market and give me many new opportunities and perspectives.
My immediate professional goal is to secure an internship that will help me develop my business skills. I plan to graduate through the Heath IBEP program with a bachelors in business management along with a minor in finance. My long term career interest would include a management position where I can lead an engineering team or oversee the marketing of an engineering product. The automotive, banking, and tech industries interest me, but I am extremely open to trying new experiences during my career. I hope that I can bring innovative ideas to life and move projects from conception to completion. I believe that the unique education Heath IBEP gives me will help me become the bridge between technical and non-technical teams, in order to be a valuable asset to an organization.
