Mechanical Engineering

    Biography

I am Charlie Hutchinson, a Mechanical Engineering major in the 2026 cohort of the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program (Heath IBEP). From a young age, I have had a deep love for athletic activities. Whether it's playing or watching sports, I've always cherished the competition inherent in them. Competition is a crucial part of my personal and academic development, as it drives me to strive for excellence in everything I do. Additionally, I've consistently excelled in competitive scenarios because I thrive under pressure and perform well in challenging situations where others might falter. My favorite activities have always been playing soccer and working out. Through these activities, I've learned that to reach the pinnacle of my performance, I must work harder than others, gaining an edge even when my opponents may possess more natural talent. Furthermore, athletics has taught me the importance of failure and how it contributes to personal growth. Despite numerous failures, I've come to understand that I must learn from these mistakes to improve in the future.

I chose to join Heath IBEP because it presents the ideal opportunity for me to learn how to apply the knowledge I gain through my engineering degree to future professional projects. It is important for me to learn how to apply business principles to engineering projects as it will enable me to better evaluate the potential advantages and disadvantages of different engineering designs. I am also excited about the opportunity to connect with other students at the university who are going through the same phase of life as I am. Building close connections with my cohort will be invaluable, as I can seek professional or personal advice from these individuals in the near future.

My immediate professional goals include earning my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and subsequently pursuing a graduate degree in the form of an MBA. I also plan to undertake various internships to explore the fields I may want to pursue after college. While my long-term career path is not yet fully defined, I can envision myself possibly becoming a consultant or starting my own business.
