One of the classes that the first group of students in the Integrated Business and Engineering Program has introduced students to concepts related to planning and production.
Problem Solving in Organizations and System Thinking—led by Heath Fellow, Professor, and Director of the Center for Advanced Systems Research and Education Rupy Sawhney and Professor of Practice and Engineering Entrepreneurship Director Lee Martin—featured the the basics of industrial systems, lectures from business leaders, and classes devoted to solving practical production problems.
The overriding project of the class split the class into pairs featuring one student from the Haslam College of Business and one from the Tickle College of Engineering focused on developing the concept of an unmanned bus kiosk to be used by Local Motors for its Olli self driving trolley system.
There were certain requirements that had to be met, and students were encouraged to think outside the box and introduce ideas that they had.
