Biomedical Engineering
Biography
My name is Trey McGlaun, and I am a biomedical engineering student in the 2028 Cohort of the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program (Heath IBEP). Originally from Houston, TX, Knoxville has quickly become a second home for me. The welcoming atmosphere, supportive campus community, and unique opportunities at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville drew me here. I am especially excited to see how Heath IBEP will continue to shape my experience as a Volunteer.
When I first learned about Heath IBEP, I immediately recognized how closely it aligned with my values and career aspirations. The program’s emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration, real-world problem-solving, and leadership development reflects the kind of engineer and professional I strive to become. Even in my short time with Heath IBEP, I have already gained valuable insights into effective communication, teamwork, and leadership.
Sports have always been a central part of my life. Growing up in a sports-focused household and playing baseball myself, I was exposed early on to the challenges and rewards that athletics offer. While I no longer compete, I want to remain connected to athletics in a meaningful way. This passion has inspired me to pursue a career in sports prosthetics. I am fascinated by the idea of using engineering principles to enhance human movement and help individuals overcome physical limitations—whether through advanced prosthetic technology or other biomechanical innovations.
My immediate professional goals are to complete my BS in biomedical engineering and gain hands-on experience through internships across various fields. These opportunities will help me build a strong technical foundation while refining my leadership and problem-solving skills. Looking further ahead, I hope to channel my passion for sports, medicine, and engineering into a career at the intersection of these disciplines. Whether it involves designing prosthetics that enable athletes to return to competition or developing innovative technologies to improve performance and recovery, I am eager to make an impact.
