Biography
My name is Stephen Jones, a civil engineering major at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, minoring in the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program. Driven by the core belief that "life is what you make it," I operate on the principle that true success reflects the effort you invest. Since elementary school, when I launched my first business, I have developed a strong foundation in strategic thinking, problem-solving, and execution. Over time, my focus shifted toward combining technical design capabilities with business logic. Today, my primary strength lies in leveraging engineering analytical skills alongside strategic business planning to address complex real-world challenges.
Discovering the Heath IBEP program was a defining moment in my academic journey. I felt that this program answered a key question of how to combine two of my key passions into one. Having grown up with a dual passion for engineering and business, I sought a path that would bridge technical rigor with commercial application. IBEP provides the perfect framework to blend engineering problem-solving with core business principles. Combining technical skills with business intelligence gives engineers a distinct operational perspective, transforming how we approach structural and economic problems. For me, the program unlocks a unified skill set that equips me to create change while navigating complex market dynamics.
As I look towards the future, my ambition is to enter the affordable housing real estate development industry. My passion for this sector was ignited during a Dual Enrollment DECA competition, where my individual business plan ranked sixth in the state of Tennessee. Ultimately, I plan to launch my own real estate development firm, dedicated to expanding affordable housing options for low-income families—starting in Memphis, expanding across Tennessee, and reaching into the broader American South. Alongside development, I aim to establish youth initiatives focused on financial literacy and mentorship, empowering the next generation to build strong financial habits and pursue their full potential.
