Biography

My name is Sarah Norris, and I am in the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program. I am majoring in Aerospace Engineering with coursework in computer science and entrepreneurship, and in my free time, I am an Undergraduate Researcher through ENLITE Research Group focusing on qualitative engineering education research. This past summer I have published two papers for the American Society for Engineering Education Conference, in which one paper went on to win best in the student division. In addition, I have a love for mentorship and working with others, and I cultivate this by being involved in the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and being a SWE mentor. I am passionate about supporting women in STEM, and use mentoring and my research to help end the STEM gap.

This past summer, I had the honor of interning for Lockheed Martin (Aeronautics) as an Operations Analyst in Fort Worth, TX. During my summer I was able to handle cross-disciplinary, unstructured problems that spanned from map visualization to cost analysis. Being involved with the company made me realize my passion for planes, and established my interest in software and hardware integration. I am returning to LM, and I am currently working part-time as a Scrum Master with the team in California that I will be supporting in the summer of 2022. These experiences combined with my coursework in Heath IBEP have allowed me to develop my skills to work with other disciplines and really embrace the phrase “extroverted engineer”, while also learning systems thinking techniques that can give my practices a holistic approach.

My overall goal is to solve problems using cross-technical solutions (build, code, ﬁnance), and challenge myself while doing it. I aim to work at the cusp of innovation in a way that is meaningful and can help others, and in the long term, I hope to be a Program Manager for a new project and work my way up to help a company achieve its mission.
