Mechanical Engineering
Biography
My name is Samarth Mathur, and I am a mechanical engineering student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Growing up, I was a quiet and shy individual, but my work experiences in high school challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and engage with unfamiliar people and environments. These experiences helped me build confidence and communication skills, enabling me to express myself without fear of judgment. Developing these abilities has shown me their immense value alongside academics. They’ve taught me that it’s okay to feel unsure, uncomfortable, or even scared—because those moments signify growth and the opportunity to learn something new. Even as I write this, I continue working to improve these skills, but I firmly believe that confidence is the key to unlocking any door.
Academically, I have always been drawn to both STEM and business. In high school, I actively participated in organizations that allowed me to explore both fields. When I discovered the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program, I was immediately captivated by its mission. The idea of combining my interests in STEM and business while surrounding myself with like-minded peers felt like a perfect fit. It was exactly what I had been searching for since my first day on campus, and I am grateful to be part of such an inspiring program.
Looking ahead, my primary goal is to continue building confidence and embracing new experiences. While I don’t have a specific career path in mind yet, I trust that the opportunities and challenges I take on will guide me toward where I need to be. I am passionate about learning, collaborating with others, and creating innovative solutions. Ultimately, my hope is that wherever my journey takes me, I will make a meaningful difference and leave a lasting impact through my work.
