Biography
My name is Owen Peshek, and I am a finance student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Originally from the northwest suburbs of Chicago, I would describe myself as hardworking, determined, curious, and creative. Many of the qualities I have today come from experiences I had at a young age. I began acting as a child and became a SAG-AFTRA member at age six, which gave me the opportunity to work with producers, directors, and other professionals. Through acting, I developed strong communication and interpersonal skills while also learning the importance of professionalism, preparation, determination, and strong character. Learning how to work with different people, adapt to new situations, and handle both successes and setbacks has had a lasting impact on how I approach challenges today.
I joined IBEP because I wanted to expand my knowledge beyond business and gain engineering experience by working alongside students with different backgrounds and perspectives. My parents have always told me that I tend to think like an engineer, so IBEP felt like an opportunity to combine the best of both worlds. I believe having knowledge of both business and engineering can make me a more versatile and valuable professional because I can approach problems from multiple perspectives. During my time in IBEP, I hope to learn from my cohort and faculty, build a strong professional network, develop my business and engineering skills, and gain experiences that prepare me for future career opportunities.
As I continue to explore my career interests, I am especially interested in the intersection of finance with real estate, sports, and the music industry. In real estate, I am fascinated by how large-scale projects such as stadiums, entertainment venues, commercial developments, and residential properties are financed, structured, and brought to life. Sports and music are two of my biggest passions, so I am also interested in the business side of these industries, including areas such as sports and music technology, sports representation, and other finance-related roles. I am still exploring which specific career path is the best fit for me, and I see that as an exciting part of my college experience. Ultimately, I want to build a career that combines my interests and strengths and allows me to work in an industry that I am genuinely passionate about and enjoy.
