Aerospace Engineering
Biography
My name is Nick Schubert, and I am an aerospace engineer at the University of Tennessee as part of the 2027 Cohort in the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program. From a young age, I always questioned how things worked. My desire to obtain this kind of knowledge led me down the path of science and math-based classes, eventually landing me in engineering. My love for flying furthermore pointed me down the path of aerospace engineering while also obtaining my piloting license. My core beliefs revolve around integrity, grit, and a positive outlook in most situations. I have also learned that panic can lead to impulsive choices, so taking a deep breath and calming oneself before assessing a problem is always a priority. My constant drive for learning and ambitious mindset has pushed me to be my best in and out of the classroom.
When I first learned about IBEP, I immediately knew it was imperative for my future. This program offers powerful skills and lessons applied daily and at work. These skills include handling situations in the workplace and different approaches to problems. On a larger scale, the program demonstrates how to connect the business and engineering aspects of the job. IBEP has also helped surround me with people who will push me to be my best self. My professional goals have pointed me to the sky, where I plan to design aircraft and fly for recreation or commercial reasons.
My overall professional goal is to continue to work with something that will always keep me captivated: my love of flight. This goal consists of helping design planes while being able to fly them. Whether in the defense or commercial industry, I want to make a difference in what is developing in the aviation world. With further research and developments in supersonic travel, I hope to one day contribute to making supersonic travel normal in the commercial industry. Furthermore, I would love to help military contractors such as Lockheed Martin continue to keep our military and defense strong.
