Mechanical Engineering
Biography
My name is Naif Sabi, and I am a sophomore mechanical engineering student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I would describe myself as someone who values precision, discipline, and big-picture thinking. I have always had a natural talent for noticing details and connecting them to a larger vision—a skill I first developed through my hobbies of photography and stock investing. Photography trained me to focus on small but meaningful details, while investing taught me how to analyze patterns and anticipate outcomes. Together, these experiences have shaped the way I approach problem-solving in both engineering and life.
Beyond academics, my volunteer experience in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria was especially formative. Contributing to rebuilding homes and helping communities taught me the value of teamwork, accountability, and service. This experience also instilled in me a strong work ethic rooted in discipline and persistence—qualities that I carry into my academic and professional life. My ability to stay focused and complete tasks on time stems from this foundation of responsibility and determination.
I joined the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program because I see it as an opportunity to grow into the kind of leader I aspire to become. My long-term goal is to serve as a CEO or leader who can guide people toward a clear vision, and Heath IBEP provides the ideal environment to cultivate these skills. The program’s combination of real-world business challenges and interdisciplinary collaboration pushes me out of my comfort zone, allowing me to build confidence while applying engineering knowledge to meaningful global problems.
Professionally, I am drawn to the energy and automotive industries, where I believe engineering innovation can drive sustainability and progress. These fields excite me because they demand both technical expertise and creative problem-solving—areas where my skills and interests align. In the near future, I aim to sharpen my leadership and public speaking abilities, as I know these skills are essential for influencing and inspiring others.
Through Heath IBEP, I hope to continue developing not only as a skilled mechanical engineer but also as a leader who can connect ideas, people, and industries to make a lasting impact.
