Biography
My name is Lucy Filip and I am a sophomore in the Haslam College of Business here at the University of Tennessee. I am an accounting major with a concentration in business analytics, and I am a part of the 2029 cohort of the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program. When looking at colleges, Tennessee stood out to me immediately because of the school's sense of community, and it’s lived up to that since day one.
Throughout high school, I participated in many different clubs and activities which have all helped me in various ways. During my summers, I worked at a YMCA camp with a camper with special needs, where I learned that real leadership means recognizing each person's individual needs and adapting to meet them, not expecting them to adapt to you. These summers taught me patience, clear communication, and genuine care for each individual's progress, which are skills that I continue to carry with me throughout my life.
When I first learned about IBEP, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. Students from different disciplines working together to solve real-world problems was exactly the experience that I was looking for, and one that I knew would be imperative for my future. IBEP has also helped surround me with people who will push me to be my best self. The program's emphasis on real-world experience, mentorship, and collaboration are crucial elements for a successful career and I believe will be instrumental in shaping my professional future.
My immediate professional goals include graduating with a degree in accounting while gaining professional experience through internships, study abroad, and work. I am exploring internships in various fields to find the best fit for me. In the future, I hope to use my collaboration and problem-solving skills to make meaningful change in the world, and I hope to step into a career that challenges me every day.
