Mechanical Engineering
Biography
My name is Liam Hanson, and I am a sophomore mechanical engineering student from Woodstock, Illinois, and a member of the 2028 Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT).
I have a variety of hobbies and interests, with sports being one of my main passions. I played tennis and basketball in high school and currently compete on the club tennis team at UT. I also enjoy following football, soccer, and baseball. Beyond sports, I love sightseeing, traveling, thrifting, and exploring engineering concepts. My passion for engineering began during a middle school trip to the Kennedy Space Center, where I was captivated by the larger-than-life rockets and rovers on display. This experience sparked my curiosity and led me to dive deeper into engineering during high school. I took advantage of nearly every engineering class available, where I gained skills in coding, CAD software, research and development, and problem-solving. These technical abilities, combined with the communication, teamwork, and determination I developed through high school sports, have proven invaluable in my relationships, academics, and career aspirations.
I joined Heath IBEP to continue building on these skills while gaining valuable business and leadership experience that will be essential as I pursue a career in engineering. The program provides opportunities to collaborate with like-minded peers from both engineering and business disciplines, enabling me to build a professional network of ambitious students and future colleagues. Additionally, the executive mentorship program offered through Heath IBEP allows me to connect with experienced professionals who have navigated the corporate ladder—providing invaluable advice to help me grow both personally and professionally.
My immediate career goal is to work in the automotive or aerospace engineering industries as a design engineer. This role would allow me to combine my passion for developing cutting-edge technology with the problem-solving skills I continue to refine through Heath IBEP. Ultimately, my dream job is to work as an engineer for a Formula 1 racing team—designing innovative cars while traveling around the world to watch the races.
