Biography

Growing up, I always had a niche for learning; I was always curious about how the world operates. The irregular nature of the world around me made me question events, situations, and world problems. I knew that I wanted to change the world. However, I did not know how until I started taking a special interest in numbers. I used to make math equations out of road signs and perform mathematical operations on the times on the clock (i.e. 3:25 pm 3+2 = 3*3 - 2*2 = 5*2 - (2+3) = 5). I performed exceptionally well in math and literature at an early age, and I engaged in many math camps and upper-level math courses. Additionally, I won numerous math awards, and I traveled around the U.S competing in Math competitions. I continue to receive recognition for my mathematical, writing, mentorship, and leadership abilities at the University of Tennessee.IBEP stood out to me while I was in high school when I joined FIRST robotics. I ended up leading an all-female robotics team. The problem-solving applications that I used in robotics changed my life because it made me realize a need for more women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). As captain of the robotics team, I got to mentor and encourage girls to enter engineering and to chase their dreams. I chose engineering because I can do all of the things that I love: identifying problems, innovating solutions, and empowering girls like me. As captain of the team, I realized that I used both business and engineering to manage and contribute to the team. I love IBEP because it helps me further understand the irregular nature of the world through systems thinking. It teaches us that both engineering and business are essential as they allow for change, challenge, and creativity. IBEP has allowed me to feed my curiosities, grow as a mentor and leader, and become the best version of myself academically and professionally. Furthermore, I am a double major in Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) and Mathematics. I also have a minor in Reliability & Maintainability Engineering. My ISE and Math degrees teach me how to model systems, identify bottlenecks, perform failure mode analysis, and many other things. My objective is to study condition-based and preventive technologies that will help identify, manage, and eliminate failures that lead to losses in a system’s function. This is important to decrease waste, which affects the cost of a system’s life cycle. Roles that interest me include Reliability Engineer, Operations/Project Manager, Process Modeling & Control Engineer, and Maintenance Engineer/Technician.
