Industrial Engineering
Biography
Hi, I’m Katherine Koester, studying Industrial Engineering at the University of Tennessee. I am part of the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program (Heath IBEP), where I co-chair the Engagement Committee, which is dedicated to fostering connections and building relationships among students.
Through Heath IBEP, I’ve had the privilege to explore how business principles integrate with my engineering coursework. This program not only enhances my technical skills but also helps me understand the broader business context, which is essential for my future career. My role as Co-chair of the Engagement Committee allows me to promote student relationships and community while integrating business concepts into engineering studies.
Balancing work and personal interests is vital to me. Outside of academics, I enjoy riding horses, crafting, playing music on both piano and guitar, and attending concerts—especially country music shows. Maintaining this balance ensures that I remain productive while also enjoying life.
My first introduction to Heath IBEP was through my brother, who was a part of the 2021 cohort. Watching his journey inspired me to join the program when I started college at UT. The sense of community within Heath IBEP across various cohorts has been a significant draw for me. Witnessing my brother’s growth in Heath IBEP, hearing positive stories from current members, and experiencing a strong sense of community and support have all reinforced my decision.
I have a strong interest in manufacturing, having undertaken internships in manufacturing process design and development. These experiences helped me realize my passion for manufacturing. Moving forward, I seek further experience in different roles within manufacturing while aspiring to learn about other industries to broaden my horizons. Ultimately, I aim to work in a role where I can make a meaningful impact while continuing my journey of lifelong learning.
