Biography

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”

I have never had one solid answer to that seemingly simple—and slightly daunting—question. My responses have ranged from “Broadway actress” to “Michelin-starred chef” to, perhaps most realistically, “financially stable.” I have always taken the saying “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but often better than a master of one” to heart–I want to do it all! I am endlessly curious, and I have never wanted to limit myself to just one interest.

Hiya Heya everyone, I’m Kate! I am a Knoxville native and second-year student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, pursuing dual degrees in industrial engineering and business management. My interests sit at the intersection of technical problem-solving and working with people. A lot of people can do science, but not many can communicate science. I can do both. I can see myself as part of the business analysts and engineers of tomorrow. The junction of these fields is how my brain works. Whether I eventually become a project manager, business analyst, engineer, or something I have not discovered yet, I hope to build a career that is
technical, collaborative, and people-facing.

This interest first took shape in high school, where I found a home in both business and STEM. I competed in DECA role-play events and served as executive captain and project manager for FIRST Robotics Competition Team 3824. Robotics taught me how to delegate, listen to different perspectives, advocate for an inclusive team culture, and guide people toward a shared goal. It also taught me that leadership is not about having every answer; it is about asking good questions, communicating clearly, and helping others use their strengths.

I joined Heath IBEP because it reflects how my brain works: across disciplines. I wanted a community where I could learn alongside business and engineering students, work on real industry challenges, and connect with mentors who understand both the technical and organizational sides of a project. Through IBEP, I hope to strengthen my skills in project management, operations, business analytics, and cross-functional collaboration.

Currently, I am building my professional experience through internships while participating in the Chancellor’s Honors Program. Long-term, I hope to lead meaningful projects, translate complex ideas for different audiences, and help technical and business teams work better together. Outside of school and work, you can usually find me roller skating, watching movies, or baking something new.
