Biography
Hello, my name is Hampton Gerken from Knoxville, Tennessee. Go Vols! I am a Finance major in the 2027 Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program cohort.
I continue to be drawn toward Heath IBEP's opportunity for students to become better professionals across industries. It is common for professionals to unintentionally create silos, and Heath IBEP works to prevent that from developing within its students before they deploy into their careers. This mission aligns with my goal to become a more adaptive and well-versed professional alongside my peers.
During my time in the Haslam College of Business, my coursework has improved my financial concept knowledge, data management skills through Excel, and overall analytical thinking. My acceptance into Heath IBEP has enabled me to solve problems for real companies alongside my fellow business and engineering students. I am also Bloomberg Master certified in Equities, Fixed Income, Forex, and Commodities, thanks to my time in the Masters Investment Learning Center. Through building and monitoring my own investment portfolio, I have developed a long-term perspective on growth and risk management, refining my ability to stay disciplined amid market volatility and adapt to recent market news.
With a passion for the financial and engineering industries, I have embraced opportunities that foster connections between them. I spent a year with Pellissippi State Community College Motorsports and their Formula SAE team. Business and engineering students came together to develop a 1:2 scale formula-style race car from the ground up. My involvement included 1) recording purchases, productions, and assemblies 2) competition business proposals 3) and onsite administrative tasks at Michigan International Speedway. My growth allowed me to transition to Flatrock Motorclub in Westel, TN where I have gained marketing, operations, and sales experience for almost two years. This opportunity to assist in the development of a world-class motorsport destination has increased my desire to provide high quality service to clients. The culmination of these experiences improved my ability to understand and communicate with professionals in a variety of industries. From CEOs to community college students, everyone has unique personalities, and understanding those differences to form quality relationships makes a world of difference when it comes to partnering together.
I am looking to pursue continued professional experience and a career in the financial services industry. I believe my experience in the technical industries, combined with my passion for financial literacy, will allow me to provide quality service for an array of individuals. I have an interest in wealth management, financial planning, and institutional consulting.
