Grace Copeland

Biomedical Engineering

    Biography

My name is Grace Copeland, and I am pursuing a biomedical engineering degree with a minor in integrated business and engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Growing up in Morrison, Colorado, I developed a deep appreciation for nature and a curiosity about how science and technology can improve the world around me.

Throughout high school and into college, I have cultivated skills such as resilience, empathy, and a commitment to growth—qualities that have shaped my success. Whether serving as captain of my varsity spirit team, mentoring younger students through Girl’s Mentoring, or co-founding the D’Evelyn Service Corps to organize community outreach initiatives, I have learned the importance of collaboration, clear communication, and purpose-driven leadership. My hands-on experience in healthcare settings—including an internship at Carlson Family Dentistry and Oral Surgery Center—has further fueled my passion for biomedical innovation and patient-centered design.

I joined the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program because I believe that the intersection of engineering and business is where real-world impact begins. Heath IBEP’s emphasis on mentorship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and industry engagement aligns perfectly with my goals. I am excited to learn from professionals, contribute to team-based projects, and grow into a leader who can bridge technical expertise with strategic thinking.

In the near future, I hope to gain internship experience in medical device development and biotechnology, with a particular focus on gene therapy. I am especially interested in roles that involve working on cross-functional teams, solving complex problems, and designing solutions that improve patient outcomes. Long-term, I envision pursuing an MBA alongside my engineering degree to prepare for leadership roles in the biomedical industry—perhaps even launching a startup focused on accessible healthcare technologies.

I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of Heath IBEP and look forward to connecting with mentors and peers who share a passion for innovation, service, and excellence.
