Business Analytics

    Biography

My name is Clara Hampton, and I am a business analytics major from Cincinnati, Ohio, as well as a member of the 2028 Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program cohort. Some of the strengths that have contributed to my success are empathy, adaptability, and dedication. While empathy may not seem like a key factor in academic success, my ability to truly understand and connect with others allows me to collaborate on a deeper level. I have also learned the importance of dedication through challenging experiences. For example, during the first volleyball game of my senior year, I tore my ACL, meniscus, and MCL—an injury that required surgery and sidelined me for the season. Staying positive was difficult, but I adapted to contribute to my team in other ways and remained motivated throughout my recovery. Seeing my perseverance pay off was incredibly rewarding, and I now apply those lessons to other areas of my life.

I decided to join Heath IBEP because of my passion for both business and engineering. In high school, I participated in DECA, an international business competition where I was given prompts and had ten minutes to prepare solutions. While these presentations were business-oriented, I recognized that engineering would be crucial for their execution. Similarly, in high school physics classes, I designed fully functioning mini-cars and launchers—projects that were engineering-focused but would require business knowledge to succeed in a real market. These experiences gave me glimpses into the worlds of business and engineering, and through hard work followed by accomplishment, I developed a love for intertwining the two disciplines. Heath IBEP fulfills my eagerness to explore this intersection.

When choosing a major, I was torn between business and engineering. Although I ultimately chose business, my interactions with my mom—a former engineer—have shown me the incredible problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills that come from an engineering background. Beyond satisfying two of my passions, I joined Heath IBEP for its hands-on learning experiences and its strong network of peers and mentors who empower students to bridge the gap between business and engineering in order to make a meaningful difference in the world.

In all honesty, I am still unsure of where exactly my place in the world may be. However, I do know that my goal is to work for a company whose mission aligns with my values while exploring roles until I find where I can make the greatest impact. Over the next three years in Heath IBEP, I hope to uncover these passions while developing the skills necessary to create meaningful change.
