    Biography

My name is Christela (Chris-tell-uh)! I am a driven individual with a strong interest in combining financial strategy, leadership, and service to create meaningful change. Through academic, professional, and volunteer experiences, I have developed skills in leadership, communication, and strategic thinking while working closely with others and contributing to the communities I care about. I am particularly motivated by opportunities that involve solving complex problems and creating meaningful impact through collaboration.

I was introduced to the Health Integrated Business and Engineering Program (Heath IBEP) by my older sibling, and its interdisciplinary structure immediately resonated with me. By bringing together students from the Tickle College of Engineering and the Haslam College of Business, the program emphasizes collaboration across disciplines to address real-world challenges. The specialized hybrid concentration in business and engineering develops system-based reasoning, applied problem solving, and design thinking while also strengthening essential professional skills such as clear communication, cross-functional teamwork, and project leadership. The engineering design framework has taught me how to analyze complex systems, evaluate tradeoffs, and develop structured solutions, which translates naturally to legal analysis and problem-solving in law.

My exposure to investment management and private equity has further shaped this interest by deepening my understanding of how businesses grow, how capital is structured, and how strategic decisions influence long-term value creation. These experiences have shown me how financial strategy, governance, and regulatory frameworks intersect and reinforced my aspiration to pursue a Juris Doctor and build a career in corporate law. Understanding both the financial and structural dimensions of organizations through exposure to investment strategy and the hybrid business and engineering perspective provides a unique foundation for navigating the legal complexities that shape modern corporations.

Ultimately, I hope to integrate financial insight, legal expertise, and a systems-oriented approach to contribute thoughtfully within complex organizations while also promoting broader economic opportunity. My long-term goal is to lead philanthropic efforts that expand access and resources for underrepresented communities, including people of color and individuals from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds.
