Mechanical Engineering
Biography
My name is Carson Palmer, and I am a mechanical engineering student in the 2028 cohort of the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT).
Coming from a small, close-knit town on the north shore of Massachusetts, community has always been a value close to my heart. Growing up, I learned the importance of supporting those around me and showing up for others who depend on you. This principle was emphasized in the sports I played, the schools I attended, and throughout my hometown. Transitioning to UT was a significant cultural and geographical change for me—the student population was more than double that of my hometown, and I didn’t know anyone. However, I embraced the challenge by putting myself out there, getting involved, and building lifelong connections. My experience at UT has taught me how to adapt to change and capitalize on new opportunities. These newfound strengths, combined with the values instilled in me growing up, have guided me during my time here.
I joined Heath IBEP because of my longstanding interest in both engineering and business—two fields I had always been passionate about but initially believed were entirely separate paths. While I ultimately decided that engineering was my calling, Heath IBEP provided the perfect opportunity to unite these interests. The program offers invaluable real-world experience while bridging the gap between engineering and business education. It has given me the missing piece to make my education truly comprehensive.
My immediate professional goals include graduating with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering while gaining hands-on experience through internships, work opportunities, and other forms of involvement. Currently, I am interested in pursuing a career in manufacturing or product design; however, I remain open to exploring other paths as well. Through future internships and experiences, I hope to discover where my true passion lies.
