Civil Engineering
Biography
My name is Caleb Rhinehart. I am an industrial engineering major at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I am originally from Asheville, North Carolina. I chose Tennessee because they valued me and what I could contribute to the school and community, both during my time in college and beyond.
From a young age I was interested in engineering. I have always been interested in solving difficult problems and understanding the way things work. Attending a STEM high school affirmed my interest in the field of engineering. I was drawn to industrial engineering because of the applications of problem solving and leadership within engineering as a whole.
Teamwork and leadership are very important to me. During high school I earned my Eagle Scout rank and served in multiple leadership positions in my troop. These experiences helped me understand that leadership is about communication, responsibility, and sacrifice. They have shaped how I approach teamwork and leadership.
I joined the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program because of how it matches my interests and the hands-on experience it provides. I wanted to gain confidence in my professional skills such as communication, networking, and collaboration. In addition, the project opportunities Heath IBEP provides are valuable beyond the college experience. All of the projects have real world experiences and they challenge me in ways that prepare me for my career.
I am interested in pursuing a career in project management, combining my leadership skills with my technical skills. I want to apply the lessons I have learned through Heath IBEP to my career and work with others to accomplish common goals. After graduation, I hope to give back to the university that has offered me so much. I hope to stay involved with the Heath IBEP program, whether as a mentor or in another capacity. In the long term, I am interested in starting my own firm and applying my knowledge of business and engineering.
