Ashley MacDougall

Business Analytics & Advertising

    Biography

Hello, my name is Ashley MacDougall, and I am a double major in business analytics and advertising, as well as a member of the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program (Heath IBEP) 2028 cohort.

From a young age, I have always been driven by a desire to understand the world around me—whether that meant solving complex equations, understanding people, or tackling challenging problems. This curiosity naturally led me to develop a love for problem-solving, which became even more apparent during the four years I spent rock climbing. I particularly enjoyed decoding challenges and producing meaningful, impactful results. However, when I graduated high school at the age of 16, I was uncertain about my future career path. Initially, I began college studying computer science while exploring where my true passions lay. Over time, I rediscovered my love for numbers and analysis through business analytics. Along this journey, I also realized that my creativity could flourish in advertising, allowing me to create content that resonates with people and makes an impact.

During my time at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, my primary goal has been to find a sense of belonging within the university community. Heath IBEP stood out to me because of its cohort-based structure, which fosters collaboration and learning from peers. It also provided an opportunity to stay close to my original interests without requiring intensive science courses while still teaching me how to think critically and approach problems from multiple perspectives. I first learned about Heath IBEP through my older brother’s college roommate, and I was immediately drawn to the program’s rigorous coursework and its potential to help me carve out a clear path toward my future. Additionally, the program offered opportunities to build meaningful connections with professional mentors and fellow students—something I deeply value.

As I prepare to enter the professional world, I aspire to pursue a career that combines my diverse interests in the same way that Heath IBEP integrates engineering and business. My long-term goals include opening my own business, traveling while working in creative or account management roles for an advertising agency, and creating work that positively impacts others. Whether it involves engaging with clients or developing innovative products, I aim to bring unique insights to my field by leveraging the knowledge and skills I’ve gained through my experiences.
