Biography

My name is Tucker Duncan and I am in the class of 2022. I was born in Knoxville, and moved to Franklin, TN when I was very young, but I have been a Vols fan ever since! A few characteristics I take pride in are my work ethic, being personable, and being punctual. These are attributes I believe are important in every aspect of life, and not just professional roles. I am intentional in delivering well thought out products on time. Also, I want people to see me as approachable and feel comfortable when we speak. One of my skills that receives recognition is my proficiency in Microsoft Excel; I have worked on projects with professionals and shown them new parts of the program that they didn’t even know were possible. Another quality that has received recognition is my sense of responsibility; I was appointed treasurer for my fraternity by the president as only a second-year member due to my trustworthiness and hard work. When I originally toured UT, I did so as a prospective engineering student due to my love for math and problem solving. However, I decided to go the business route, accounting more specifically, because I believed that career path would give me a better opportunity to communicate and interact with others. My freshman year, I heard a presentation about IBEP and was immediately intrigued. I had, and still do have, a passion for both business and engineering so this was an ideal program. IBEP provides the opportunity to develop skills and experiences which will differentiate me as a highly qualified candidate in my future internship and career searches.Industries I am interested in are technology, finance and accounting, automotive and aerospace. Each of these industries has a special place for IBEP students as our specialized skills and problem solving are second to none. I am passionate about each of the aforementioned industries and look forward to pursuing a career in one of these fields. For me, I believe that a finance or accounting role would be best, as many of these companies have some sort of manufacturing or engineering sector as well. Thus, I could put my engineering background and systems thinking to use by better understanding the company as a whole. This past summer I completed an internship with a manufacturing company in Franklin, TN called “The Carlstar Group.” With them, I was able to work directly with the manager of FP&A and CFO and assist with the financial reports. I completed a contribution margin project my last month of the internship that was a great learning experience, as I was able to assist the CEO and CFO in making decisions for the future by presenting them with the information that updated daily
