Biography
Hi, I’m Madison Weems, and I am a Business Management major and Economics minor within the 2025 Cohort for the Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program (HIBEP) at UT. In my free time, I love reading, being outdoors, hanging out with my friends, and watching sunsets!
Growing up as an only child, I took academics seriously because I had no one to compete with—like an older brother or sister—so I always competed with myself to see how well I could do in every subject. My parents always pushed me to try my hardest and never give up, fostering my love for academics. This showed me that there is always something else to learn and that a person can never know everything. I strive for personal academic excellence through self-competition, draw motivation from parental encouragement, and embrace continuous education.
Before deciding to come to UT, I applied to many universities across the country. When choosing a college, I not only looked for a place that offered my major but also sought opportunities to expand my knowledge in unfamiliar fields. Upon researching UT, I discovered the Heath IBEP program and knew from the start that this was where I wanted to be. The program offers interdisciplinary learning by providing insights into both engineering principles and business studies. It also offers networking opportunities by connecting students with corporate professionals through Heath IBEP, and career advancement by preparing students for future internships and job placements. This program not only enhances learning but also helps students improve their networking skills and gives them a head start compared to most college students.
Networking has allowed me to discover my true interests and how I can apply them in a management career. I’ve realized that becoming a project manager for a large company would allow me to utilize leadership skills, lead and delegate tasks effectively, and apply economics knowledge to assess project impacts on micro and macro economies. My goal is to blend these skills seamlessly into my future career path.
This past summer, I interned with Edwards Lifesciences in California as a Global Supply Chain Intern. During my internship, I improved efficiency in inventory management through Kanban System Analysis and enhanced production planning processes via Master Production Schedule Efficiency. I also identified gains in operational efficiency for Stockroom & Material Requests Performance and streamlined coordination among over five teams to align cross-functional efforts. These experiences helped me understand various departmental correlations and teamwork dynamics within an organization while solidifying my interest in supply chain management.
While project management currently piques my interest, I’m open to exploring other options within Business Management that align with both my collegiate learning and professional growth aspirations. I am committed to exploring diverse roles and remaining flexible about career paths within business management. Additionally, I believe in continuous growth by adapting my interests based on new experiences. These experiences have shaped who I am today as a businesswoman and will continue influencing who I’ll become in the future.
